Take it from the Expert. As much as I love to take out the soap and sponge… I just repaint.
Although, if you decide to do just a part of the wall, you need to know that your newly painted areas will look different than the original parts.
Why? Because paint that has been stored, loses moisture. The moisture content dictates the rate at which the paint drys. So, paint that has been stored will dry faster — for lack of water — than the original paint job, thus your ‘touched up’ portions will stand out.
What I do to fix this: Add water; About 5-10% water depending on the time in which the paint has been stored. This will slow down the painted spots’ drying time, thus mimicking the original paint job.
